Superhero stories have always been more forgiving of their male leads. Their flaws are built into their character and not often do they have to correct them before being considered heroic. Female superheroes have not always had that same freedom.

In recent years, being a DC fan meant not getting my hopes up for the comics being adapted into films. So when James Gunn announced he would be directing a new Superman movie, I approached it with scepticism.
